As soon as you go to the OkCupid.com, there are testimonials such as “the Google of online dating” and “the best 100% free dating site” by some pretty big sources such as The Boston Globe and About.com The main page is very clean and easy on the eyes.
The layout of this site is very clean, using colors that are pleasing to the eye. There’s no clutter usually found on other dating sites, and there are no distracting advertisements. Okcupid appears to be completely free of charge; not requiring you to pay for a subscription to unlock other features.
The first thing I noticed was the images of the suggested matches (in my case, female) were more attractive than other dating sites, even paid ones. The thumbnails of the images were also larger and seemed to be of higher quality.
There are three fields to complete: gender (male or female), orientation (gay, straight or bisexual) and status (single, seeing someone/here for friends and married/here for friends). After completing those fields, you complete the birthdate (you must be at least 18 years of age to use okcupid) and location field and fill in your email address. Once done, you are sent a verification email.
Once you’re verified, you can see all the features of the OkCupid. Now you can use it freely of costs, here you can find a blog on how to login and signup okcupid.com dating site. At the top of the screen there are three icons: “welcome”, “matches”, “messages” and a dropdown box showing visitors, favorites and ratings as well as an icon showing notifications.
When you complete your profile, there are five different categories to complete, which are: “about”, “photos”, “questions”, “personality” and “tests”.
The about section is a premade template with the following fields
What I’m doing with my life
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
Favorite books, movies, shows, music and food
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday I am
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m looking for
You should message me if
The photos section is where you can upload photos. You can organize your photos into albums.
The questions section is where you answer questions that other okcupid members come up with in order to match compatibility with other members. The questions are moderator approved and they are optional. Completing more questions gives you better chances of comparing you with other members with the same answers. The questions are all multiple choice, and ask the person answering them to rate them by importance: “Irrelevant”, “a little important”, “somewhat important”, “very important” or “mandatory”. There is also an option to explain your answer.
The personality section shows a bar graph of the traits you might have, which are based on the answers to the match questions, compared to the rest of the same okcupid population (in my case a straight male). The middle of the bar graph shows where the average okcupid user is and based on the answers you provided, you will either show up lesser than average, or higher than average. For example, based on the answers that I provided, I am “more kind” than the average straight male okcupid member in my age bracket.
The tests section features questionnaires you can fill out that rate where you stand on that particular test. For example, there is a test called “The backrubber” which describes itself as people using friendship as a means to sex. These tests are purely for fun, and they are clearly intended for an adult audience.
The images of your potential matches rate on categories of compatibility, being match, friend and enemy. The okcupid “staff robot” generates a percentage of compatibility based on the questions asked and the profile that you created. When you see someone who is attractive to you, simply click on their image and you’re shown their answers to the same questions that you answered. You can send them a message using Okcupid internal email system, and you can save them to your favorites.
I have tried several online dating websites, both paid and unpaid and I can say without hesitation that okcupid is by far the best. The layout and design, the ease of use, the selection of matches and the fact that there are no distracting advertisements make it an easy website to use and clearly focuses on matching you with someone else.
The questionnaires and the tests were fun and I got more quality responses from potential matches. I started a conversation with a gorgeous match with only a 69% compatibility rating, we started talking about something we both enjoyed, and ten months later I’m still with this person. My experience has been incredible with this website and I strongly encourage anyone who is looking for a companion to register.
I give this site a review of 5 out of 5 stars.
